We have just returned after a short but delightful holiday in Bangalore and Coorg. Bangalore is of course our old stomping ground, as both Simmy and I studied there. She did her degree and I spent practically all my school life there. We stayed with my niece Nisha, her husband Ajit and their two lively girls Maria and Michaela, in their beautiful apartment in St.Johns Wood near Koramangala.
We spent four days with them and then moved on to Coorg. We travelled to Coorg in a plushVolvo bus run by the KSRTC. Very comfortable, almost like travelling by air. The journey took about 6 hours, and we stayed in Mercara, mostly at the beautiful Club Mahindra Resort. It was our first trip ever to Coorg and it was a wonderful experience. The best part was the weather. Though it was March, we did not even need fans in the room.
The resort was a huge, self-contained place, with all possible material comforts. It was situated on a 35-acre property, and it was much like living in a forest. Towards the end of our stay, we moved into humbler lodgings-- a modest hotel called Coorg Regency in town. Though not luxurious, it was extremely comfortable. On the penultimate day we went on a long 10-km. trek to Abbey Falls and returned the same afternoon, walking about 20 kms. in all that day.
A few photographs of our Coorg trip are attached to this write-up.
